Interview
This summer we take a moment to celebrate one of our favourite models who has the face of an angel and presence of a Top Model. The Core Management is proud to give this month's Model of the Month award to SuzieQ.
Tell me a bit about yourself. Who is the girl under the makeup?
I am just a girl from a small village here in Skåne. I've grown up with lots of animals and I can't live without them, they're my babies. I'm a bit of a couch potato and love video games, I think I have about 9 video game consoles, and I love the old ones, like SEGA and Nintendo 8-bit. My friends are very important to me, I just have a few, but they are the best that could be found and I love them so much!
How long have you been a model?
About 4 years. It all started when I got in touch with an agency who set up a test shoot for me and since then it just continued on.
Is this something you always wanted to be when you grew up? No, not that I can think of, but my mother and brother used to sing this song "världen tillhör dem vackra" (the world belongs to the beautiful), by mörbyligan, for me when I was little, and the lyrics was about a mother telling her daughter that she was going to be a model when she grows up. So, its a bit funny the way it turned out, haha.
What would you say is your personal style as a model? I don't know, I like to do all styles, some call me a chameleon. I like the gothic/cybergothic the most though, because it's who I am personally, but I think a model should manage to play many different roles, and that is what Im trying to do.
If you can define alternative modeling, what does this mean to you and what do you think it means to the rest of the world?
I think that it is not to be mainstream, to dare to do different things and not be ashamed.
Do you have a favourite photographer to work with?
Yep, actually I do. I have Joakim Karlsson and we work well together. He is also my partner so it explains why its so easy, but I do have other favourite photographers to work with like Joachim Bago and Petter Wallebo, they are very talented! Unfortunately both live 50 miles away.
Where do you get your clothes for your shoots? Is there a designer you'd really love to model for?
I buy 98% of everything I use for photo shoots, much of it is second hand and bought through second hand online shops, but it happens sometimes that I borrow from Shango or Nubia / Vodabox of whom I have done work with.
Oh, there are so many talented designers that the list could be meters long! But I would love to collaborate with Jane Doe latex, Lip Service and Artifice Clothing, I love their clothes!
You have been working a lot lately. Tell us what you've been up to.
I am mostly working with Nubia and Vodabox. Im their official model and there is much going on for them right now. New collections and a new homepage is coming soon! I have also begun to work with a very talented designer, Kerry Bomb, here from Malmoe, and soon myself and Joakim Karlsson will do a collaboration with Shango (but I can't tell you more yet). I'm also in contact with MUEN Magazine, and they are going to use some of my pictures. They're already using one in their banner/logotype.
If someone wants to get into modeling, what is your advice to them?
Practice, practice and practice. It takes a lot to be a model, and some I think has it in their blood. Contact photographers and ask for TFP sessions, but be careful and always bring a friend with you.
What's been the most rewarding experience you've had since you began modeling?
It's hard to point out just one thing and say that it is the best, I think that it has been a process and I've developed so much by modeling. I'm not so unsure of myself anymore, but I'm still shy and hate it when people stare.
What are your future plans?
I don't know, I usually don't plan things, it just comes along. I'm going to graduate in interaction design next spring and after that we'll see what happens. I hope to go to the USA or Japan some day and see if I can find any new interesting photographers.
What do you enjoy to do when you're not modeling?
I hang with my friends and animals. I live with a small zoo consisting of three ferrets, two rats, two cats, one dog and one lizard, so they take most of my time. Otherwise I love to play video games or watch movies.
Any final words for your fans
I love you all :D!
